How long have you been in your current role/company?
I’ve been with Selligent for over one and a half years. It’s been a whirlwind time, having taken up two different roles and leading a team through double digit growth across our business!
In one sentence, describe your role…
Growing the Selligent brand across Northern Europe to enable leading brands to engage with consumers.
How did you get into performance marketing?
I grew up in the countryside surrounded by small/rural businesses. As a child I soaked up all the commercial knowledge I could and then saw firsthand how creativity could help to increase business performance. From then on, I’ve always known marketing would be my career path.
I studied Marketing & Advertising at university and also read in Organisational Transformation which has helped me in the fast-moving world of tech. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of working in leading B2B2C companies.
What about your job gets you out of bed in the morning?
A great team of passionate people. The people you surround yourself with can really make even the largest of problems bearable! Here at Selligent we have a real team ethos whereby everyone mucks in when we are under the cosh or up against a deadline. We are all passionate about marketing, committed to customer satisfaction, and eager to transform the marketing service industry.
What excites you about performance marketing?
How developments in technology are driving new areas of focus in the industry and adding new levels of sophistication of what we can do. On the flip-side, balancing tech innovation with the humanisation needed to keep our industry moving forward whilst remaining ethical.
For me, as a B2B2C marketer (aka – a marketer, who markets, marketing solutions to help other marketers, market to consumers) my role is incredibly fascinating as I not only drive my own team to perform across their efforts, but in turn help B2C brands do the same. It’s fantastic watching what our clients achieve with our solution to push performance levels through the roof!
What’s been your biggest career learning curve?
Working hard for something you don’t care about is called stress. Working hard for something you genuinely love is called passion. I also think it’s also vitally important to have a work/life balance. Yes work is important as it’s where we spend the majority of our week however having interests and the time to destress outside of work is just as important – for me, I’m a (slow) running enthusiast.
What keeps you awake at night?
I sleep very well! As our industry is so fast-paced, I usually fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. If I had to say something then it would probably have to be my to-do list. We’ve all been there before when you suddenly sit up in the middle of the night thinking of all the things you need to do the next day. I am quite regimented with my lists but every now and then something falls under the radar. I am also quite realistic about the fact that the nature of work means that as soon as something is ticked off the list, it’s instantly replaced by something else!
What’s your biggest career milestone?
I am a firm believer of looking forward and not living on past glories so hopefully the next one! I’m always looking forward to what we can achieve as a business. The great thing about working at a company like Selligent is that you are given lots of support and opportunities to reach your goals and ambitions.
If you won the lottery tomorrow, you would…
On a day-to-day basis, not much would change. My first purchase would definitely be a Labrador, as I could finally justify the cost of a dog-sitter while I’m working! Like most people I would also like to travel more, but that might be dampened by the addition of a new dog to the family. I’d also like to become a major donor to a number of charities.
